Hurricane Season Start June 1st – Are Your Prepared?

Just because Polk County is located in Central Florida, folks living here must be vigilant and prepare for the Hurricane Season. Please don’t ignore the weather warnings and take shelter.

Do you remember the devastation and destruction from the years past hurricanes? With this year’s predictions, now is the time to start preparing for the upcoming hurricane season. Hurricane season in the Atlantic Ocean starts June 1 and ends Nov. 30. Are you prepared? The National Weather Service and The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have released its hurricane predictions for the 2011 season.

12 to 18 named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher), of which:

6 to 10 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including:

3 to 6 major hurricanes (Category 3, 4 or 5; winds of 111 mph or higher)

Even though these predictions may change, we should never underestimate the power of Mother Nature! Being prepared with these details, essential items and having a disaster plan is something we should all do just in case a hurricane decides to come our way.
